Project

Beach clean-up and community sensitization in Cape Coast

Year

2019

Project Description

As part of our sustainable plan to manage single-use #plastics in Cape Coast, we embarked on a beach clean-up and community sensitization.

We had the opportunity to work with Cape 360, Dzi Wopoano Nyi, the community youth and children to collect the plastics for further processing by Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly(CCMA).

We also seized the opportunity to educate the inhabitants on the effects of plastic littering and sea pollution on our health, economy and environment, and how to reduce, reuse or sell these plastics for recycling ♻.

It was a successful project as we collected tonnes of single-use plastics and sensitized over 150 people from different families, not including the ripple effects from these informal plastic ambassadors.

Next up in 2020:
-Plastic buy-back project/centre
-Sanitation clubs and plastic competition among Junior High Schools
-Climate change/plastic management research with University of Cape Coast.

Special thanks to our passionate hub members CCMA and representatives of Zoomlion waste management company for the support.

We call on stakeholders including waste management companies and organisations with plastic management as their CSR to join us in making Cape Coast the most well-managed plastic community.
